Doctor of Philosophy In English for International Communication (International Program)

The development of the nation to an international level requires scholars who excel in English to carry out effective international communication. The Doctor of Philosophy Program (English for International Communication) holds a vision to strengthen academic staff from both government and private sectors and to provide them with a range of principles and skills required for conducting research in English for international communication in order to develop themselves as researchers who are able to make a substantial contribution to their organizations. The philosophy of the program is to:

“Develop the human resources to achieve excellence in English communication”

Objectives:

  1. To produce the Ph.D. graduates with the knowledge and skills in English and English for careers to achieve effective international coordination and communication.
  2. To promote research and development of knowledge in English for International Communication.
  3. To provide academic services to society by offering a Ph.D. program in Thailand for academic staff and granting them an ample opportunity to develop new knowledge in English for International Communication.

Instruction:

       Instruction is conducted in English by instructors of the Department of Foreign Languages and professors from other institutions in Thailand and overseas. The duration of the course is 3 years (6 academic semesters).

       Class is conducted on Saturday and Sunday (Full day).


Collaborations with Overseas Institutions:

        The Doctor of Philosophy Program in English for International Communication has established an academic link with Newcastle University, where the Ph.D. candidates are given an opportunity to conduct research at the Centre for Research in Linguistics and Language Sciences for one month. The candidates are entitled to seek academic advice from the language experts, attend a number of seminars, receive training in several aspects of the English Language and use academic resources at the University library. The Program will be responsible for tuition during a one-month stay in England as well as the round-trip air ticket.


Structure of the Program:

        A total of 55 credits required for the completion of the degree consist of:

1.  Major Courses (19 credits):

     Required courses (9 credits), Elective courses (6 credits) and Seminar (4 credits)

Entry Requirements:

  1. Both Thai and overseas applicants must hold a Masters Degree in either English, English for Communication, Teaching of English or any English-related field of studies from the higher education institutions in Thailand or overseas which are certified by the Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC) or the Ministry of Education.
  2.  Applicants must possess other qualifications required by the Academic Regulations, Graduate School, Kasetsart University.
  3.  Applicants must have a good command of English and must have a TOEFL score of 213 or above from a computer-based test or 80 or above from an Internet-based test, or an IELTS of 6.5. The official score report is valid for two years after the official score announcement.     

Tuition and Fees:

            THB 80,000 per semester (6 semesters)
